1. British Muslims have condemned as deeply offensive a computer game called Muslim Massacre, which trumpets itself as a "game of modern religious genocide."

The game, which can be downloaded for free on the internet, was designed by a 22-year-old Brisbane man named Eric Vaughn and urges players to "wipe out the Muslim race with an arsenal of the world's most destructive weapons".

"The makers of this 'game' and the ISPs [Internet service providers] who are hosting it should be quite ashamed of themselves," Inayat Bunglawala, spokesperson for the Muslim Council of Britain, said.

Damn right they should be. Disgusting little filthbags. One would hope, one would pray, that the "muslims" one destroys in the course of this game are all armed and firing back. But even if that's so, polishing off Allah as the piece de resistance is nothing short of tasteless. Zero out of ten; full of fail.

2. On a lighter note, Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson has flown to the rescue of holiday-makers left stranded abroad after Britain's third largest tour operator collapsed, newspapers have reported. Rock star, airline pilot, master swordsman... yes, you read that last one right. Quite talented, really...

3. Pushing levity to ridiculous bounds: A rogue kangaroo has boxed its way out of its enclosure in a small German town and set off a chase with baffled emergency responders, the local fire brigade said. Yes, terrible pun, I know.

4. From animals jailed to animals freed: A minister in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has ordered the release of a dozen goats that were being held illegally in a Kinshasa prison cell. The deputy justice minister says he was on a routine visit to the prison when he found the goats crammed into a cell with their owners. The goats themselves were about to face charges of being sold illegally by the roadside. The justice minister says many police officers have gaps in their knowledge of the law. I see Aberforth Dumbledore's hand behind this, but what Muggle would ever believe me?
