News of the World
Aug. 12th, 2009 11:37 pm1. It's not quite Dexter but... Brazilian police say the host of a TV crime show is under investigation for possibly ordering killings to boost his show's popularity. And he'll always have the inside scoop on the cases, too. Funny about that.
2. When running a take-away food service, one should always be careful about promising "We deliver anywhere." It could well be the most expensive and logistically challenging takeaway order ever. An Indian restaurant on the outskirts of London has received an order all the way from Dubai for a function for a Bangladeshi cricket team. 'The boys are preparing the takeaway to be flown out to Dubai for a special party. They are in the middle of preparing the lamb, the chicken, all the dishes that need to be cooked,' restaurant owner Sham Ali, told Reuters. Domino's Pizza delivery has nothing on these guys. NOTHING, I tell you.
3. If you're tired of stealing money, guns, cars, gold and diamonds, why not branch out a little? More than $10,000 worth of cucumbers have been stolen in 11 separate robberies in the past three months. Police are baffled: 'The issue with the cucumber is how do you and I tell who owns a different cucumber?,' SA Police Chief Inspector Kym Zander told ABC Radio on Wednesday. 'We're having difficulty establishing where they (the cucumbers) are going.'
I don't know where they're going, and I don't want to know.
4. "Do not cast pearls before swine," said Jesus Christ. "They will only turn and attack you." He was right, but it seems that isn't just pearls which spur them on. A greedy pig is thought to have swallowed a diamond from a woman's wedding ring after she put her hand into his pen in Britain, the owner of the animal said. The ring is being sought in the only way possible. I don't envy the farmer his task, but it is only through much tribulation that we enter the Kingdom of Heaven...
5. An 'unhinged' Russian woman threw a teacup at the world's most famous painting, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, but it emerged unscathed due to its bullet-proof glass cover, the Louvre museum said on Tuesday. In Soviet Russia, tea stirs you.
